Asinta:
Images and Imageries
is
a collection of some 50 works on canvas
paper and rendered in pen and ink, and watercolor
through ink jet print technology.
The artworks,
consisting of drawings and photographs, are
digitally processed images of events and themes
that characterized the social, economic and
political dimensions of the 80s towards the
present. Most of the artworks have been previously
published in national publications and have come
to its present form through Digital Art.
The
artworks chronicle the good and bad in Philippine
society, the challenges and shortcomings that
befell Filipinos, as a nation and as individuals,
alternately. They showcase daunting images of
poverty, human rights incursions, political
upheavals, and protest of every kind. They
highlight the famous and infamous, the common
“tao” and shining personalities whose lives and
acts have touched the fiber of society and
redefined what “being Filipino” means today, in
the national and global context.

About
his Art
"
Totoong marami sa mga drowing at karikatura ni
Pinggot ay produkto ng magulong dalawang pangwakas
na dekada ng ika-20 siglo, kaya tampok na tauhan
sina Ninoy, Tita Cory, Gringo, Fidel, Cardinal Sin
sa piling ng mga barumbarong, armalayt, kalbong
bundok, pulubi, biktima ng iba't ibang uri ng dahas
at paglabag sa karapatang pantao, at polusyon.
Ngunit mapapansing nagbago man ang ilang tauhan ay
hindi nagbabago ang bisyon at komentaryong
nakapatnubay sa mga larawan ni Pinggot ng
kasalukuyan. Paulit-ulit ang pahayag. Bakit?
Sapagkat waring nasadlak sa isang malagkit na
kumunoy ang Filipinas, nadikit sa isang panahon ng
lagim at himutok, at hindi nagbabago sa kabila ng
nakalipas na mahigit dalawang dekada."
Virgilio Almario,
National Artist for Literature
"
Pinggot Zulueta's art jars the human conscience and
forces us, by the power of his images, to take the
side of the victims of injustice, poverty and
inequality. His art reminds us all that the search
for security in society is also the search for
justice for the downtrodden."
Noel
Albano,
House
Deputy Secretary-General
" May
dusa, mithi't pagtitiis."
Teo Antonio,
Thailand SEA Write Awardee
" We
are likewise acquainted with Zulueta's strengths in
freehand drawing, his penchant for hatching and
woodcut effects, and keenness for the state of the
soul of the people he meets, whether provocateur or
police or politician. In later forays, he becomes
more surreal in impulse as evidenced, for instance,
in such works as " Orasang Walang Kamay" and "
Maestrang Kumain ng Sariling Bituka," testaments to
a landscape and a people seized in catatonia."
Patrick Flores,
Chair, UP Department of
Art Studies
" I have
seen some of Pinggot Zulueta's pictures and
illustrations in various publications. The others I
am seeing for the first time, or the others I have
seen in their original form as photographs, I am
seeing for the first time as they have been altered
digitally. This is what Pinggot does with his camera
and computer, to his images and to us. And he does
it not only skillfully but with the artist's hand (
which he is ), but also with penetrating eye of a
social commentator who doesn't use words but
pictures to shock us out of our complacency. The
image, in Zulueta's eye and hand ( mouse? ) is
altered, manipulated, enhanced, which in the process
alters and counters our sense of reality."

"
Bubulagain kayo ng art ni Pinggot. Pwede! "
Joey

"
Bihira ang mga pintor na potograpo pa. Bukod-tangi
talaga si Pinggot . Hindi lamang siya may damdamin,
may diwa rin siya para sa mga api. Itinataas niya
ang tinig mula sa ibaba."
Vim
Nadera,
TOYM
Awardee
" A
highly sensitive and imaginative artist."
Virgilio Pantaleon,
Yuchengco Group of Companies
" Art
in many forms has gained a foothold in the once
exclusive world of digital technology. Pinggot
Zulueta opens our eyes to this new, exciting art
medium."
Ben
Rodriguez,
Editor-In-Chief, Manila Bulletin
"
Pinggot Zulueta reinforces a vivid tendency in late
20th century Philippine graphic work: that of the "
guhit na nanggigigil." He shares this with the likes
of Danny Dalena, Benjie Lontoc, Roxlee and DengCoy
Miel, all the while lacing his pieces with a surreo-poetic
gravity all his own."
Jose
Tence Ruiz,
Visual Artist and Curator
" Jose Pinggot
Vinluan Zulueta guards history through his lenses.
As a photojournalist, he
witnessed history as it unfolded to form the
Filipino character - defiant, principled and
seemingly clueless of what tomorrow holds for the
country. As an artist, he captured images that
struck his chords and immortalized them on canvas,
not only as a form of self-expression, but also as a
move to aspire changes and actually make a
difference."
Mae
Lorraine Rafols,
Manila
Bulletin, September 20, 2002
" Pinggot, the reluctant
artist...."
